ReSound ONE

Having worked on many projects for GN ReSound over the years, this time they hired my studio to help design their next generation of advanced hearing devices for the ReSound & Beltone brands.

Working close together with ReSound’s senior designer Henrik Hetz Christiansen and many of the talented mechanical engineers at ReSound, the design goal was to find a design language that would bring the look of hearing aids up to the same level of simplicity and esthetics as many of the hi-tech products we all use daily, such as smartphones, smart watches, earbuds and laptops. The design should not look like a typical hearing aid but a simple, beautiful state of the art product that is discreet, comfortable to wear, easy to use and would make any user proud to show off his or her newest high-tech gadget.

The result is ReSound ONE.

The shape of the device is based on a simple parallelogram. This form fits comfortably and discreetly behind the ear and at the same time has a volume that enables enough space for the internal components. The detailing of the device has been kept to an absolute minimum to give the design a clean and timeless look. The devices come in rechargeable or non-rechargeable models.

First design sketch exploring the possibility of using a parallelogram shape for the next generation of hearing devices. Plus a design sketch for the M&RIE speaker,
This new series of products would also introduce a completely new concept called M&RIE. Normally today’s hearing devices are based on a type called RIE (Receiver-In-Ear) meaning that the receiver is placed into the ear canal and there are 2 microphones on the top of the hearing device which sits behind the users ear and picks up sound from around the user’s ear. The new concept places a 3rd microphone together with the receiver in the ear canal, making it possible for the user to now pick up sound directly in their ear canal. Together with Resounds Smart 3D app for smartphones, the user can control more precisely the directionality of their hearing devices.
